AMINO ACIDS
Amino acids are the building blocks of protein and are essential to the human body. They are found in protein-rich foods like meat, fish, dairy products and certain vegetables (legumes, peas, and grains). Bodybuilders can especially benefit from supplementing amino acids because they aid in repair, growth, and development of muscle tissue. After protein is consumed, it is broken down into individual amino acids, which the body then uses to create over 50,000 proteins and over 15,000 enzymes. Amino acids also play a key role in normalising moods, concentration, aggression, attention and sleep.

L Arginine
L Arginine is a semi-essential amino acid that the body cannot make naturally. Nevertheless, it performs a myriad of physiological functions and so it is important to include arginine-rich foods in your diet. Arginine is found in high concentrations in nuts and seeds like peanuts and almonds, and can also be found in chocolate and raisins. Arginine is necessary for hormone secretion, nitrogen retention, protein synthesis, increased growth hormone output, the removal of toxic waste products from the body and immune system defences. It is also a precursor of the gas nitric oxide which is responsible for vasodilation, a process that aids muscle growth and supports healthy sexual function. It can also scavenge free radicals, signal muscle cells, release growth hormone, support healthy cholesterol levels, enhance fat metabolism and help regulate the body’s salt levels. Thus, it is of great interest to competing bodybuilders, as retaining water under the skin can make the body look smooth, bloated and washed out. Arginine’s advantages to athletes include a strengthened immune system, allowing you to train harder and avoid the minor health problems sometimes brought on by overtraining, and weight-loss benefits due to its ability to increase growth hormone levels, encourage lipid oxidization and support healthy blood pressure.

L Carnitine L Tartrate
L-carnitine is very similar to the non-essential amino acid carnitine and performs some of the same functions, like helping the body metabolise food into energy. It is synthesised in the body from the amino acids lysine and methionine, and is also available from natural sources, including avocados, dairy products and red meats (especially lamb and beef).
L-carnitine transfers long-chain fatty acids, such as triglycerides, into mitochondria (a cell’s energy powerhouse), where they can be oxidised to produce energy. Used to burn fat, increase energy, improve resistance to muscle fatigue and build muscle, it is a very popular supplement that promotes growth and development. It reduces feelings of hunger and weakness too, helping weight loss, with studies also showing that the body’s cardiovascular system can greatly benefit from its intake. These findings suggest L-carnitine supports the heart’s performance by increasing its output, improving its functioning and stimulating its energy supply. Those with insufficient levels of protein or amino acids in their diets, such as premature infants, vegans, children and breast-feeding women, could benefit from L-carnitine supplementation.

L-Glutamine
The extremely popular amino acid L-Glutamine can be found in protein powders, beans, meats, fish, poultry and dairy products. Glutamine is highly in demand throughout the body – it is used extensively in the gut and immune system to maintain optimal performance and makes up 60% of the free-form amino acids floating in the body’s skeletal muscles. It also plays a very important role in protein metabolism, and research suggests that an intense workout can reduce glutamine levels in the body by as much as 50%. Thus, supplementation may help bodybuilders and athletes reduce muscle deterioration (also known as catabolism) by making sure that other tissues do not need to ‘steal’ the glutamine stored in muscle cells for other purposes.
Taurine
The importance of the amino acid taurine is increasingly being recognised by athletes, bodybuilders and protein scientists alike. Taurine is the second most abundant amino acid in muscle, in several metabolic conditions, and has several critical functions. Similarly to creatine, it can increase cell volume by helping the muscle cell itself hold more water, improving both the muscle’s appearance and its rate of protein synthesis. It has also been claimed that taurine may help weightlifters to handle heavier weights by enhancing leverage.

L Leucine
L-Leucine is an essential branched-chain amino acid (BCAA) that cannot be made by the body; thus, it must be acquired from food, like nuts, brown rice and whole wheat sources, or dietary supplements.
L-Leucine has the fourth-highest concentration in skeletal muscle tissue of all amino acids, and accounts for about 8% of the amino acid count in your body’s protein structures. As one of the three BCAAs (along with L-Valine and L-Isoleucine), L-Leucine is essential to your basic health – but it has also athletic applications.
Its effects on sports performance include helping to preserve lean muscle tissue, supplying the body with energy during periods of high activity, preserving muscle glycogen (glucose stored in muscle tissue that powers muscular contraction), and maintaining the body’s nitrogen balance. It also helps you to maintain concentration even as physical activity becomes more intense.
Its effects in the diet are also profound. As the strongest of the BCAAs, L-Leucine is a “limiting nutrient”, meaning that your body will not be able to make full use of what you eat if you do not consume sufficient levels of L-Leucine in proportion to other amino acids. So including L-Leucine in Kinetica supplements helps your body to get ‘full value’ from our high-quality Whey Protein.
PROTEINS
Biotein ™ Xtreme
Biotein™ Xtreme has been manufactured to produce optimum results when exercising or training. A unique Whey Protein concentrate blend, it comprises Whey Protein concentrate enriched with organic virgin coconut oil. Whey Protein concentrate is produced by ultra filtration technology; this is then co-dried with organic virgin coconut oil to help improve performance and provide better results.
Biotein™ Xtreme is a rich source of branched chained amino acids, which help promote muscle growth. It also delivers 4 - 5 g of organic virgin coconut oil per serving, helping your body preserve vital energy stores and giving you that competitive edge when you need it most.
Benefits of organic virgin coconut oil – MCTs
Organic virgin coconut oil is a mix of saturated fatty acids, linoleic acid, oleic acid, poly-phenols, various derivatives of fatty acids and fatty alcohols, and vitamins. Though organic virgin coconut oil is categorised as a saturated fat, it is seen as a healthy fatty acid due to its high levels of energy-rich medium chain triglycerides (MCTs), which are not stored as fat.
These MCTs can be used by the body for a number of purposes, including muscle energy, fat burning and the production of adenosine triphosphate (ATP).
Many other fats are predominantly made up of long chain triglycerides – an extremely important difference as the physiological effects of the MCTs in organic virgin coconut oil are distinctly different from those of the long chain fatty acids more commonly found in the diet. MCTs are broken down in the stomach and, unlike other fats, do not require the action of pancreatic enzymes or bile salts. This means they can provide an immediate source of energy, helping to increase stamina and endurance.
Organic virgin coconut oil is known to be good for the heart, containing about 50% lauric acid to help prevent high blood pressure and high cholesterol levels.
Many pathogenic bacteria are inactivated by the presence of free fatty acids in coconut oil while its antimicrobial lipids (lauric, capric and caprylic acids) strengthen the immune system.

Whey Protein Isolate
Whey Protein isolate is a key ingredient in the BIOTEIN™ protein blend and is the purest form of protein produced by cross-flow microfiltration. This natural process uses a ceramic membrane to remove the fat and lactose (without the use of heat or chemicals), leaving a high-protein ingredient (90% pure protein by weight) that is low in lactose and virtually fat-free. This gentle process minimises protein denaturation, maintains a better mineral profile and preserves more of the valuable dairy fractions.
Whey Protein isolate contains key fractions and amino acids which contribute to health and well being. Its amino acid composition is very similar to human skeletal muscle protein, providing almost all of the amino acids in equal proportions and containing all the essential amino acids required in our diets. These are the building blocks for healthy skin, hair and body tissue – and, of course, muscle. Whey Protein isolate is rich in branched chained amino acids (BCAAs) too, which help promote lean muscle mass and recovery. These are metabolised directly into the muscle tissue, are the first amino acids used during periods of exercise and exert an anti-catabolic effect by reducing the breakdown of protein and protecting muscle tissue.
Scientific evidence continues to show that whey, especially Whey Protein isolate, is the optimum source of protein for sports enthusiasts or athletes, helping to improve performance, accelerate recovery and maintain lean muscle.
Whey Protein Isolate
Athletes are very competitive by nature and continuously aim to maximise their personal potential and out-perform the competition. To help serious sportspeople attain these goals, Kinetica supplements contain Whey Protein that has been hydrolysed (Whey Protein hydrolysates), which is absorbed more quickly by the body than non-hydrolysed protein and increases the body’s insulin response.
Rapid Absorption of Whey Protein Hydrolysates
Whey Proteins are made up of long chains of amino acids held together by peptide bonds. Hydrolysed Whey Protein is created by a process known as enzymatic hydrolysis, where enzymes (naturally-occurring proteins produced by all living cells) are used to break down these bonds. This process produces peptides of various sizes and single amino acids.
By mimicking the way our body digests proteins, enzymatic hydrolysis produces Whey Protein hydrolysates which are effectively pre-digested. This means that they can be absorbed more quickly by the body than whole proteins or free form amino acid mixtures.
It has been reported that hydrolysates, due to the high levels of peptides and amino acids, are absorbed faster into the blood stream than corresponding complete proteins. Hence, plasma amino acid concentration is higher and rises more quickly following their ingestion. This is very advantageous for athletes who wish to maximise amino acid delivery to the muscle.
Improved Insulin Response
Insulin is an anabolic hormone which is released by the pancreas (primarily in response to circulating glucose). It is important for muscle protein synthesis and muscle glycogen storage and many studies have shown that the insulin response following ingestion of hydrolysates is greater than the response to the intact protein equivalent.
Skeletal muscle is one of insulin’s target tissues, where it can have an effect on both carbohydrate and protein metabolism.
Carbohydrate Metabolism: When insulin binds to a skeletal muscle cell surface receptor, the result is an increase in glucose uptake. Glucose that is not required immediately for energy is stored as glycogen.
Protein Metabolism: In the presence of amino acids, insulin promotes muscle protein synthesis by increasing the muscles’ uptake of certain amino acids. It also decreases muscle protein breakdown by inhibiting amino acid oxidation.
These effects help reduce the time taken by the body to recover after exercise. Recovery time is determined by a number of factors, including post-exercise muscle glycogen re-synthesis and muscle protein anabolism. An increased insulin response is therefore seen as very beneficial in the sports sector.
One recent study (carried out on behalf of Kinetica’s parent company Carbery) compared a Whey Protein hydrolysate sports blend with a regular blend containing Whey Protein isolate, with the hydrolysate blend showing a 33% greater increase in insulin response over the 3 hours after feeding. Likewise, an independent academic study reported a fourfold increase in insulin response after consuming Whey Protein hydrolysate compared to milk and glucose solutions.
Creatine
Creatine is a compound that is naturally produced by the body in order to supply the muscles with energy. Produced in the liver, pancreas and kidneys, it is transported through the bloodstream to the body’s muscles, where it is converted into phosphocreatine (creatine phosphate). This high-powered metabolite is then used to regenerate the muscles’ supplies of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), the ultimate source of muscle energy. While creatine occurs naturally in many foods, including herring, salmon, tuna and beef, creatine monohydrate is by far the best source, containing the highest amounts of creatine per weight of material. Kinetica’s source of creatine is Creapure®, a 99.99% pure creatine monohydrate.
A popular bodybuilding supplement, creatine can significantly increase lean muscle mass in just two weeks and is also responsible for improving performance in high-intensity exercise. Helping both to increase energy levels and speed up recovery rates, it gives athletes who supplement with creatine a distinct edge over those who do not. By hydrating muscle cells with water, it encourages protein synthesis and minimises protein breakdown, thus enhancing the muscles’ energy reserves. It enhances muscle growth too, making the muscle fibres bigger and stronger, and is ideal for anyone involved in intense physical activity who is seeking increased lean muscle mass, higher energy levels, better endurance or quicker recovery times.
In the past five years alone, more than 20 double-blind, placebo-controlled studies (where neither the researchers nor the subjects knew who was getting creatine and who was not) have demonstrated the effectiveness of creatine supplementation. These studies showed that creatine increased energy levels, increased strength, improved endurance and recovery and accelerated fat loss while building lean muscle mass.

Carbohydrates
Carbohydrates are complex chemical compounds composed of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen atoms, which the body can convert into either glucose or fat. The key source of energy in the human body, contributing 4 kilocalories (kcal) per gram by weight, carbohydrates are best described as ‘fuel for the body’. Your body typically stores about 200g of carbohydrates in the muscles and another 90g in the liver. The liver’s carbohydrate reserves fuel the workings of the brain and typically remain untouched during times of muscular distress. So in order to burn fat through exercise, it is important to have consumed sufficient amounts of carbohydrates to produce energy and replenish the muscles’ supplies. Kinetica uses oat flour, maltodextrin and Palatinose™ as an important quality source of carbohydrate.
Dextrose
Dextrose, also known as corn sugar, is a simple carbohydrate. It is 70% - 80% as sweet as sucrose (table sugar) and is absorbed and utilised quickly by the body to provide energy rapidly. Sweet, highly soluble in water and extremely mixable, dextrose is an excellent addition to a formula and helps contribute to the great taste of the Kinetica range. It also contains no lactose.
Dextrose is a high-GI carbohydrate that should be used for post-workout supplementation, ideally in conjunction with high-protein sources. This causes a rapid increase in insulin levels, shuttling amino acids into the muscle cells to boost growth.
Numerous scientific studies have shown the effectiveness of combining carbohydrate and protein sources in this way.
Maltodextrin
Maltodextrin is an easy-to-digest carbohydrate produced from corn starch and made up of dextrose polymers of varying lengths. Like dextrose, it is an excellent source of energy, though it is much blander in taste. Usually the prime ingredient found in most off-the-shelf weight gain products, maltodextrin helps to increase mass, as well as producing a glycemic response similar to that of dextrose. It also increases the mixability of protein powders and contains virtually no fat.
Palatinose™
Palatinose® is a low-GI carbohydrate that provides energy (in the form of glucose) over a longer period of time than high-GI carbs like dextrose or maltodextrin. Rather than being absorbed quickly to produce a spike in insulin levels, it is absorbed slowly (only 32 GI), providing a phased release of natural energy for both the body and brain that is ideal for long exercise sessions requiring endurance.
Half as sweet as table sugar, Palatinose® causes no tooth decay, and can be consumed in large amounts without causing stomach discomfort. And by providing energy over a longer period of time, it can help with weight management by reducing snacking/overeating. It could also promote fat oxidation and delay meal initiation.
