MMA
Mixed Martial Arts is one of the fastest growing combat sports. It is a sport that requires a lot of power, strength and endurance. The duration of a round is usually five minutes and it uses a variety of techniques to take an opponent to the ground. MMA places a lot of demands on the body and MMA fighters need to have a high level of body conditioning.
Like other sports that requires endurance as well as power and strength, nutrition is very important for an MMA fighter and pivotal when it comes to performance. During a training session, an MMA fighter could burn as much as 1000 calories an hour. Carbohydrates and protein are vital for an MMA fighter. Protein intake can range from 2g – 2.5g per kilo of body weight, depending on the demands of the training and it should account for a large percentage of their diet (up to 35%). This allows the fighter to gain muscular growth while also helping with the recovery process.
