KINETICA REVEAL’S THE NEW FITNESS TRENDS FOR 2011

Specialist sports supplement brand KINETICA reveals its top fitness predictions to make an impact on sport and fitness in the UK for 2011.

In collaboration with Jon Denoris, personal trainer to the stars and KINETICA fitness ambassador KINETICA defines the future of fitness by identifying key trends which will be influencing the way the UK will be exercising in the New Year.

1. Junkyard Workout

Influenced by the recession and the reduction of disposable income – people are beginning to use everyday outdoor objects i.e. sandbags, wheelbarrows etc to create a unique fitness programme. As Jon states “This takes influence from the tactics adopted in the strongman training schedules. The nation is looking to the items they have in their very own back garden as a more cost effective solution to keep them fit and healthy.”

2. Freedom Climber

For 2011 the circular climbing wall will be the new piece of fitness equipment we are going to see popping up in office and local gyms across the country. This clever piece of equipment takes up less space and risk compared to conventional climbing walls. Jon mentions “Circular climbing walls are functional, fun and different. They challenge the mind and body appealing to people on a different levels.”

3. Yoga hybrids

Research from the US suggests money spent on Yoga has increased 87% since 2004 (Fast Company). This new trend is about combining the key elements of Yoga – graceful movement with strength training techniques. Taking the best bits of Yoga and creating a new dynamic fitness skill. Jon concludes, “Combining the use of resistance bands and weights to assist clients in “powering” out of the warrior poses, combining kettlebells/dumbbells to add a strength challenge to various yoga postures”

4. Technology/iPhone apps

iPhone apps, lifestyle management tools, pedometers are all becoming an essential part of eveyone’s gym kit. They are fast becoming a form of remote coaching. Jon clarifies “You can be training in US and your trainer in the UK can monitor the miles, calories burnt and heart rate to give you guidance and advice you need. It enables people to challenge and compete against each other without even being on the same continent. Technology gives you the freedom to train, compete and reach your goals anywhere in the world.”

5. Mixed martial arts (MMA)

MMA is quickly becoming one of the most popular combat sports which we will see becoming extremely popular in 2011. Combining mixture of martial arts and variety of fighting techniques. The rules allow the use of both striking as well as grappling techniques, both while standing and on the ground Jon predicts “we will see a rise in specific circuit training & conditioning next year. Whilst boxing continues to under deliver with peoples current demands from exercise and fitness, MMA will offer more excitement – it’s the new rock and roll!!”
